Stakelums Celebrates Historic Awards Treble

Stakelums Home & Hardware has completed an exceptional awards treble after being named County Tipperary Business of the Year 2026.

The Thurles-based family business recently received the top honour at the County Tipperary Chamber Business Awards in Hotel Minella, Clonmel in September.

Stakelums also won Family Business of the Year, sponsored by Clancy, and Excellence in Customer Experience, sponsored by Ryans Cleaning.

The Overall Business of the Year Award, sponsored by H&MV Engineering, was selected from the winners of the evening’s 15 business categories.

Established by the Stakelum family in 1960, the business has grown from its beginnings in Borrisoleigh into one of Ireland’s largest independent home and hardware retailers. It now operates a 90,000 sq ft store in Thurles.

The independent judging panel praised the company’s growth, innovation and resilience, together with its commitment to customer service, employee development and the community it serves.

Michelle Aylward, Chief Executive of County Tipperary Chamber, said: “Stakelums is a powerful example of what a family business can achieve by continuing to invest, innovate and listen to its customers.

“It has remained deeply rooted in Tipperary while building a business with a reputation that extends far beyond the county.

“Winning three awards in one evening is an extraordinary achievement. It reflects the contribution of the entire Stakelums team and the trust the business has built with generations of customers.”

Joe Connolly, speaking on behalf of Stakelums Home & Hardware, said: “This award belongs to our entire team. Their knowledge, commitment and care for our customers are the foundations of the business.

“We are proud of our family history and our Tipperary roots, but we have always understood that a successful business must continue to change and improve.

“To receive three awards, including Overall Business of the Year, is an enormous honour. We thank our employees, customers, suppliers and the wider community for supporting us.”

More than 400 guests attended the black-tie ceremony, which was hosted by Tipp FM’s Fran Curry.

Minister Jack Chambers attended the event, together with business leaders, public representatives, sponsors and finalists from across County Tipperary.
