CILT Mobility & Supply Chain Skillnet Marks Decade Of Industry Impact With Launch Of 10-Year Network Report

CILT Mobility & Supply Chain Skillnet officially launched its 10-Year Network Impact Report at a special industry event marking a decade of industry-led workforce development across Ireland’s mobility, logistics and supply chain sectors.

Hosted as part of Ireland’s Mobility & Supply Chain Skills Forum on Wednesday, 13 May – the event brought together industry leaders, employers, policymakers and educators to reflect on 10 years of collaboration, innovation and skills development supporting one of Ireland’s most strategically important sectors.

Since its establishment in 2016, by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ireland (CILT Ireland) in partnership with Skillnet Ireland and collaborating companies, the network has supported more than 6,000 professionals through subsidised, enterprise-led training programmes, designed to strengthen operational capability, improve compliance, drive sustainability and future-proof the workforce. Over 2,000 companies nationwide have engaged with the network during the past decade.

The newly launched report highlights the network’s significant contribution to workforce resilience and competitiveness, including its rapid response to Brexit through the nationally recognised Clear Customs initiative, its transition to digital and hybrid learning during COVID-19, and its growing focus on sustainability, AI, digitalisation and leadership development.

Speaking at the event, James Kearney, Network Manager of CILT Mobility & Supply Chain Skillnet, said: “The past decade has demonstrated the value of industry-led workforce development. Our focus has always been on delivering practical, relevant and future-focused training that directly responds to the evolving needs of employers and employees across the sector. This report reflects the collective commitment of industry, education and government partners working together to strengthen Ireland’s mobility and supply chain capabilities.”

The impact report evidenced strong outcomes for both learners and employers. It highlighted measurable improvements in operational performance, workforce capability and organisational resilience, with some companies achieving annual savings of between “20,000 and 40,000 through in-house customs expertise developed via CILT Mobility & Supply Chain Skillnet supported training.

Additional findings from the report include:
– More than 15,000 training days delivered nationwide over the past decade.
– Nearly 60% employer co-investment in training initiatives, demonstrating strong industry buy-in.
– 97% of learners reported increased knowledge following training participation.
– 69% of participants said learning would have an immediate impact within their organisation.
– 45% of learners reported receiving a pay rise following programme completion, while 24% reported securing a promotion.

The network’s programme portfolio has expanded significantly in recent years to include advanced areas such as AI in supply chain management, sustainable logistics, EV technology, customs compliance, leadership development and stackable micro-credentials designed for operational teams.

The Mobility & Supply Chain Skills Forum featured a series of high-level panel discussions exploring some of the sector’s most pressing opportunities and challenges. Discussions included talent attraction, recruitment and retention in an increasingly competitive labour market, alongside reflections on how the supply chain and logistics sector has evolved over the last decade, and what the next decade may hold.

The event concluded with a strong message around the importance of continued collaboration between industry, education and government to ensure Ireland’s mobility and supply chain sectors remain resilient, innovative and globally competitive in the years ahead.
